After waiting for this male cardinal to take off in flight, this is the image that was captured. Seems that when they are on a mission to get to the ground they do it in a dive.
The male Northern Cardinal is perhaps responsible for getting more people to open up a field guide than any other bird. They’re a perfect combination of familiarity, conspicuousness, and style: a shade of red you can’t take your eyes off. Even the brown females sport a sharp crest and warm red accents. Cardinals don’t migrate and they don’t molt into a dull plumage, so they’re still breathtaking in winter’s snowy backyards. In summer, their sweet whistles are one of the first sounds of the morning.
The Northern Cardinal is the state bird of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.

This is intense! What type of camera set up are you using?
Holden The Moment replied:
Thank you ! For this photograph I was using my Nikon D7100 and a Sigma 170-500mm lens mounted on a tripod.
Holden The Moment replied:
Also depending if I'm trying to capture a bird that is just sitting or in flight I change my focus settings. For this one I was set to AF-C.
